Bespoke Sash Windows for Listed Buildings

Timber sash windows for Conservation Areas

A listed building is one judged to be of national importance in terms of architectural or historic interest.

Our exclusive range of Hampton Conservation windows is designed specifically for such heritage projects. Of particular importance to conservation officers is the need to reflect traditional construction in replacement windows, particularly with glazing bars, where they favour sashes with multiple, smaller, and individually glazed panes. Original glass manufacturers could not produce large sheets such as are available today so, historically, the grid of timber glazing bars allowed for a larger glazed area in the window.

The use of putty to hold the glass within the grid allowed the glazing bar to be as slim as possible, maximising the area of glass and thus light. With Hampton’s unique patent pending glazing system, FineGlaze, we can construct the grid using 22mm glazing bars into which individual glazed panes can be inserted. The glazing bars feature a bevelled profile externally, which replicates an authentic putty finish, and a traditional lambs tongue moulding internally.

As with all Hampton’s sliding sash windows, effortless movement of the sash in the frame is paramount. Thanks to our patented QuattroGlide® system which insures our sashes don’t have sideways or front to back movement as the sash is cushioned against the frame, this means no timber touches timber or paint touches paint which is the cause of rattling and sticking in other box sash window manufactures. Our sliding sash windows are unique and acclaimed by conservation architects and high-end construction companies as the best UK manufactured sliding sash windows on the market.

Hampton’s Conservation range of windows are made individually, resulting in great attention to architectural detail. Our patent pending FineGlaze design, combined with Hampton’s renowned craftsmanship ensures a window of the highest quality and yet sympathetic to the historic past of the building.
